Room Booking - Biology Conference Rooms

For PI's who require a small conference room for less than 20 people, please note that we do have some rooms available for lab meetings, Supervisory Committee meetings or other ad hoc meetings. These rooms do have projectors and screens.

Stewart N5/9 – this room can be booked through Susi Kaitna (5414 or email: There is a weekly schedule posted on the door of N5/9. For occasional meetings, you can simply write in your name in the preferred slot and book the room. For meetings that are held on a regular basis, please contact Susi for availability and booking. Please see me (Carole Smith) for access to the 5th floor, if needed.

Bellini 230 – the information given above for N5/9, is the same for Bellini 230.
The only addition is as follows - if you or your lab members need access through the Stewart-Bellini bridge, please fill out this online form:

Stewart S3/8B – this room has a tabletop projector and a screen but no blackboard or whiteboard (for now). To book this room and get a key, please contact Susan Gabe (; ext. 7045) or Carole Smith (; ext. 6406). Please make sure this room is locked once your meetings are over since the projector is not locked.

Goodman Cancer Centre, Rooms 530 and McIntyre 703 – these rooms can be booked through Diana Lee (; ext. 2246) but are highly restricted. Preference is given to Faculty of Medicine. However, because of the West Wing renovations and subsequent loss of smaller classrooms, the Goodman Centre will allow exceptions. You can consult their website at:

Carpentry & Special Projects
Carpentry services ranging from basic repairs to special jobs for your labs or offices are offered by Frank Scopeletti. You can reach Frank at (514) 398-3980.

Printing Services
Any duplication requiring more than 40 copies is cheaper if processed through the printers rather than using a photocopying machine. Reprint costs are often prohibitively high and these can be reduced by having the printing department reproduce the paper from a reprint. Orders are placed with Lucy Scigliano in room W4/7. Please note that, in some cases, copyright clearance may be necessary before this work can be undertaken.

Mail Service
The University Mailroom:
The University has a central mailroom which is administered by Ancilliary Services. The office is located on Durocher St. For more information, please visit Mail Services at McGill University.

The Departmental Mailroom:
The Departmental mailroom is located on the 8th Floor of the North Wing (N8/11). Staff and graduate students have individual mail slots allocated to them. The incoming mail is delivered and sorted daily. Large incoming parcels are placed on the table to be picked up. Only official departmental correspondence and stamped personal correspondence, with complete return address including name of sender, may be placed in the outgoing external mail bag. The outgoing mail is removed by the Building Porter at 7:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. daily.

Bookstore -
The main university bookstore, Le James, is located at 3544 Ave du Parc, for course material; for clothing and other McGill items, please visit the bookstore at 680 Sherbrooke, W.

Coffee Room
The lounge (N8/1) is open to all members of the Biology Department. There are 3 microwave ovens. Reading material is available in the coffee room. Please see Ancil Gittens, Room N7/18B (-5478) if you wish to reserve the Coffee Room for an occasion.

Courier Service
The department uses the services of Federal Express and charges will be made to the users PCard. The user must make arrangements to send large packages through the Receiving (N3/17) and envelopes and small packages through the Coordinator in Room N8/17.

Staff Identification Cards
The Staff I.D. Centre is located at 688 Sherbrooke Street, room 1520. The I.D. Centre is open from 8:30 – 4:30 from Monday or Wednesday and from 8:30– 12:00 on Friday. In order to obtain an I.D. card, staff members will be required to have a payroll number together with one other piece of identification such as a driver’s license, social insurance card, etc.

The Biology Deparment has a van for use by researchers. The vehicle is frequently in use, for both teaching and research purposes. Request for the van is heavy during the periods when there are departmental field courses at Mont St.Hilaire, as well as during the summer months when the camp at Lake Memphremagog is in use.

Reservations for the van are made through Laura Testa (N816). The keys and the completed log (FOAPAL must be provided) are to be returned to Laura's office upon return from a trip. The fuel tank of the vehicle is to be at least 1/2 full and the van should be cleaned, both inside and out, when returned. Please report any damage or other problems when returning keys.

If you have not driven the department van previously, you must provide the department with a photocopy of your driver’s license (both front and back) along with your signature atleast two weeks prior to usage for insurance purposes.
Please note that it is illegal to transport radioactive/hazardous waste materials in the vans or any other public vehicle.
