Professor Gerald Pollack

Research Summary:

The main topic of research in my laboratory is the neuroethology of communication. We are interested in how animals detect and discriminate sensory signals. We study crickets as model organisms because of their well developed systems of intraspecific communication (particularly acoustic communication) and the amenability of their nervous systems to analysis at the level of single, identified neurons. Our experimental approaches include behavioral observations, neurophysiology, and neuroanatomy.
