"For thousands of years, the budding yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae has been used for the production of bread and beer. Today, budding yeast is an important model organisim for the study of molecular genetics, cell biology, genomics and proteomics. A major advantage of using yeast to figure out how cells work is our ability to easily genetically manipulate these organisms." |
