Computer Support
|
Network-related issues, such as getting a computer connected to the internet should be referred to Robert Lamarche (phone: 514-398-6469; email: robert.lamarche@mcgill.ca) or Ron Kara (phone: 514-398-2405; email: ron.kara@ mcgill.ca).
Robert and Ron maintain the department network and provide computer support for administrative offices. They look after the computers in teaching laboratories and provide support for general software used for teaching (e.g. operating system, general productivity software such as word processors, networking) but not for more specialized programs that are specific to particular courses (e.g. statistics packages, graphing programs).
With the exception of networking hardware and software, the department does not provide computer support for faculty members and graduate students. You can also contact the McGill Knowledge Base or contact ICS Customer Support for all voice and IT related issues at 514-398-3398.
a) Teaching: The computer lab dedicated to undergraduate teaching/productivity is located in room N4/17. Please contact Ron Kara for booking the lab: 514-398-2405.
b) Research: The majority of computers used for research are PC compatibles and Macintosh. Many of these computers have been purchased through research grant funding to an individual staff investigator. The use of this equipment is, therefore, focused on a particular project, whether it involves data analysis and reduction or word processing. Undergraduates do not thus have ready access to these machines except through particular courses. Graduate students will find that essentially all labs and research projects have a PC of one kind or another available to them.
